A New Crafts Dresser and Some News

Have you ever found yourself trolling Craigslist and Facebook to find the perfect piece of furniture? That’s where I’ve found myself for the past 2 years. And I have some big news. The perfect piece of furniture presented itself to me and I finally ended the never-ending search.

I knew that someday I would have to move my craft supplies out of the dresser in the spare bedroom. You know, the dresser in the spare bedroom that will become Virginia’s bedroom when a baby brother or baby sister needs the nursery. In October. Yes, you are reading between the lines correctly. 🙂

This is the dresser from my childhood where all of my craft supplies used to live:

I use the phrase “craft supplies” with a lot of creative license here. I’m talking random collections of paper, weird scraps of fabric, rope, googly eyes, sewing supplies, wax stamp sealing materials, pipes (yes, pipes, not pipe cleaners, but those are in there too), markers, picture-framing supplies…. Pretty much, you name a thing that could possibly be used for a craft, and, if I owned it, it lived in this dresser.

The big question was: where on Earth was all of this stuff going to move to when Virginia needed that dresser to become hers? I’ve been fretting about this problem for a long time, knowing it was inevitable. Every time I added something to that dresser, I would pause and shudder and then pretend I never thought of it and ignore the problem. Until of course, it could be no longer ignored and I found this gem:

It was exactly what I’d been trolling the internet for. A mid-height chest of drawers. I didn’t want a full on dresser. I wanted something girlier and daintier and less like a piece of furniture. When I saw this on Craigslist, I knew it was game over. And the insides of the drawers are painted my favorite color. It is my furniture soul-mate.

And get this: it actually was an entire drawer taller, but that drawer was broken, so the woman who sold it to me trimmed the piece down and reattached the top! What amazing creativity! And, you’d never be able to tell. I think it’s just one more sign that it was fate—one extra drawer would have made it too tall for me!

Sometimes purchasing on Craigslist can be a drag, but I had so much fun getting to know the woman who revived this piece of furniture. You should definitely check out her Facebook page. She had this particular dresser housed at a local shop of an amazing interior designer, but when I visited her shop, I realized she’s way more than an interior designer. All in all, I totally adore it. I get to look at it while I drift off to sleep and it fills my dreams with sweet gray and ivory charms.
